Sandra Becker: Pop-Up Exhibition: When Artists Talk to Telephone Books – and They Talk Back

Sandra Becker : Pop-Up Exhibition at Museum für Kommunikation Bern

19–29 May 2026
Museum für Kommunikation Bern
Helvetiastrasse 16, 3005 Bern, Switzerland

Discover Sandra Becker’s pop-up exhibition at the Museum für Kommunikation Bern, developed in collaboration with Wikimedia CH GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums).

The exhibition explores historical Swiss telephone directories from the PTT Archive, asking what these documents can reveal beyond names and numbers. Preserving traces of everyday life, communication, and memory, the directories become the starting point for artistic interpretation and reflection.

Artists participating in the project work directly with these archival materials, transforming lists and names into stories that are quiet, surprising, and multifaceted. Through these artistic interventions, familiar documents are reimagined and given new voice and meaning.

The project brings together archives, Wikipedia, and artistic research through a shared commitment to openness, collaboration, and access to knowledge. By connecting archival preservation with contemporary artistic practice, the exhibition invites visitors to reconsider how collective memory is stored, interpreted, and shared.
