Gabriela Gusmão: Oroborotic at Spira Corridor at Casa TAO Brasil
“Human life — what am I saying, Life itself! — is a poetic work. Without being conscious of it, we live it day by day, little by little; yet it is Life, in its intangible totality, that weaves our existence and composes within it the poem.” (Lou Andreas-Salomé, in a letter to Freud)
Oroborotic, by Gabriela Gusmão, inaugurates the Spira Corridor at Casa TAO Brasil as a sensory exploration of transformation between body, time, and painting, inspired by the symbol of the ouroboros. The exhibition activates painting as a living, evolving field where materiality and thought merge in continuous becoming.
It was part of a special program on January 30, including the launch of the Spira Corridor and a concert by Carlos Malta and Victor Biglione.
Inspired by the figure of the ouroboros — the serpent that devours its own tail — Oroborotic explores cycles of transformation between body, time, and creation, in which life and artistic practice continuously fold into one another.
From this poetic spiral, Gabriela Gusmão inaugurates the Spira Corridor at Casa TAO Brasil with a solo exhibition that activates painting as a living field of gesture, passage, and metamorphosis. The works create a sensory territory where materiality and thought intertwine, dissolving boundaries between beginning and end.
Conceived in partnership with Cláudio Mascarenhas, the Spira Corridor emerges as a moving exhibition device — a space for multisensory expansion. As Mascarenhas describes it, “a summation of the energies of love and art guiding beauty through our bodies and souls.”
As the exhibition’s poetic axis, the artist states “Ouroborotic corporeality is the phenomenal field of eternal return — the open whole in becoming.” Among the new works is a collaborative painting with American artist Bari Bing, expanding the exhibition’s international dialogue.
