INTENSIVES

VIRTUAL MONTHLY INTENSIVE SESSIONS

Our virtual monthly intensives take place at the end of each month that we are in session. See the program schedule for details.

VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS + OPENING PUBLIC TALK

Workshops lengths will vary. Breaks are at the discretion of the session leader.

To start off or end your workshop session, we encourage session leaders to give a 15-30 min. public talk for our Open Window Series about their recent research and praxis. This is a great way to introduce yourselves to the class and for TT to share programming with our community. If you’d like to do this, please just let us know when you submit your proposal form below.

Please note: any time spent delivering a public Open Window presentation is included in your workshop fee if you’re teaching a workshop that day.

ZOOM SESSIONS

Your class description & syllabus can be found here. Simply click on your session and course title. This will automatically bring you to your course specifics.

Please test out using Zoom and its various features, i.e. sharing your screen and audio, showing videos, running slideshows, etc. prior to starting your workshop. If you are having any issues, please refer to the Zoom Getting Started Guide or reach out projects@transartinstitute.org. In order to record the public portion of your workshop we need a release form please (see below).

SPLIT TEACHING & GUESTS

TT welcomes collaboration, so it’s fine if you would like to share your role as a session leader with a colleague, please just indicate your intention to do this on your syllabus form. You will split your hours and fee accordingly and we also ask you to indicate this on your individual invoices.

If you would like to invite a guest to your workshop please include details in the course proposal form, including contact email and how they will participate in the session.

PHD SUPERVISING

YOUR ROLE

As part of a Supervisory team consisting of yourself, potentially another TT supervisor, an LJMU Lead Supervisor (who will be responsible for leading on all administrative processes, procedures and forms), and your student, you will normally meet monthly, usually on Zoom.

It is for the student and the Supervisory team to decide together precisely how meetings will work and the responsibility of the LJMU Lead Supervisor to organize meetings. You are only responsible for input on the student’s creative research and thesis. If you are working with another TT supervisor as part of a split supervision you will typically meet for half as many hours, i.e bi-monthly rather than monthly. We are happy for you to work together and schedule meetings in any way that suits everyone involved, provided that the student feels that their needs are being met and the number of meetings and their frequency is as specifed.

PhD supervision is generally a three year commitment. To put things in context, students meet the last weekend monthly for intensive sessions, either in person or by Zoom for workshops, talks, screenings, symposia, sound and somatic sessions along with their independent research groups.

Note: Please make sure that you don't make any recommendations to potential students regarding specific LJMU faculty that might supervise their project. Doing so can create expectations about availablity which may be either inappropriate or difficult to meet for reasons of capacity. LJMU will ascertain who will work with any given student as their Lead Supervisor, much as we do in relation to the Co-Supervisory role(s), so it's important that we respect this protocol to preserve academic autonomy in both institutions. That said, you are free to suggest Transart co-Supervisors.

Note that the Institute is on break August 1 - 31 and December 15 - January 15th.

PRE-ADVISEMENTS AND SUPERVISION

Applicants will indicate in their Expression of Interest (EOI) submission their initial choices for Supervisors and we will make additional suggestions. You will be sent the EOI and invited to arrange with a potential student to discuss the possibility of working together. Once you’ve had the meeting, please respond to the invitation confirming or passing on the Supervision.

Once the Supervisory team has been agreed upon, the applicant will submit forms to LJMU and you will begin to work together in October (after the student is registered with LJMU). TT Program Co-Heads will organise your initial full Supervisory team meeting, and thereafter LJMU Lead Supervisors will take responsibility for organising meetings. The first Supervisory team meeting must take place no earlier than October 1st and no later than October 31st. A minimum of three further meeting should be arrnaged at this point, and choosing a fixed monthly time and date for these meetings is highly recommended.

If you are new to Transart, you will be invited to complete a profile form, which will enable you to be added to the TT People Advisor Pool. You will then be sent a link to review your online profile and can let us know if any adjustments are needed. You can always update your information at any time via the Profile Change form linked below. Once you have been added to TT People other applicants with shared research interests will have the opportunity to request working with you.

SPLIT ADVISEMENTS AND SUPERVISIONS

TT welcomes collaborations. If you would like to co-advise or co-supervise a student, you will divide your responsibilities and meeting sessions in agreement with your student. You will be splitting your hours and fees and indicating your meetings on your individual invoices.
