Rebeen Hamarafiq

A Kurdish Iraqi artist, Curator and Researcher. Studied MFA Fine Art at Goldsmiths London.

He works on relation between daily living and art, social construction of power and meaning, body reaction to norms and modern living, and re-habitation of Iraqi society after random  destruction by wars and the fast changes of the after Saddam’s era. Fighting stereotypical international Images on Iraq, promoting and building the local views. Embedding criticality to exhibitions and cultural events.

He exhibited nationally and internationally. Including Showroom London, Alternativa Gdansk, Cal Art LA and Museo di Roma in Trastevere. Among grants and residencies: winner of Spotlight Iraq by Goethe Institute.  Live Art and ArtsAdmin residency in London. 

Curated projects includes Dado, Sulaymanyah, video zoom Kurdistan Iraq, Museo di Roma in Trastevere. Are We Addicted? One-year project inside culture Factory (cities old cigarette factory).

He published articles on visual culture in some of local magazines. His latest article published in Genocide Studies International.  University of Toronto Press.
