Konjit Seyoum, who was born and raised in Ethiopia is a multidisciplinary artist, curator, interpreter and cook. She holds an MFA in Creative Practice from Transart Institute, Plymouth University, U.K. She is also a graduate of University of Trieste, School of Interpretation and Translation. She has worked as a free-lance interpreter for various international organizations for more than two decades. Konjit is also the founder of Asni Gallery which she run from 1996 until 2017. Asni was an alternative space where experimental approaches were highly encouraged. Konjit has curated numerous exhibitions, organized local and international workshops and residencies, community outreach programs as well as collaborated with various local and international institutions. Her art practice is experimental and involves the act of cotton spinning, photography, sound, text, installation, video, food and performance. Through her work, Konjit explores the personal as well as the social examining notions of gender, identity, loss, displacement and memory. Over the years, Konjit has participated in several solo and group shows both locally and internationally.
