Erin Wilkerson : Manifesto on Feral Filmmaking published in La Furia Umana

Motivations for Feral Practices by Erin Michele Wilkerson - Images of the Remains of the Eaton Fire. (2025). Polaroid Green 600 Series.

TT + LJMU PhD alum Erin Wilkerson's manifesto, "Feral filmmaking: wilding cinema as a decolonial act," offers considerations for how to make work of resistance and rebellion in troubled times. It is a methodology in opposition to the Hollywood hierarchical model, and expands on the guerrilla tactics of Third Cinema. Alongside more traditional research methods, it encourages collective practice, learning all modes of production, utilizing modest gear as professional tools, and treating place as a character rather than a backdrop, deep listening for more-than-human collaborations.

As funding is rapidly disappearing, these kinds of models move from theoretical space, into essential tools for continued practice. Feral filmmaking offers pathways for work to disperse like a 'weed': stubborn, tenacious, and refusing to remain contained.
