Straub studied Cultural Anthropology at the University
of Vienna (MPhil, focusing on visual culture theory,
subjectivity-objectivity relation within documentary
filmmaking, global media), before he moved to Mexico
City for 3 years where he was working as Media
Correspondent, Production Assistant and visual Artist.
A two year stay followed in Scotland. During the first
year he studied Electronic Imaging at Duncan of
Jordanstone, College of Art and Design at the
University of Dundee (MSc, focusing on social/ digital
networks) and during the second year he worked at the
Dundee Contemporary Arts, Visual Research Centre
organizing a series of talks and symposiums.

Since 2001 Straub has been based in London where he is
working as a University Lecturer at the Dept.
of Applied Social Sciences, University of North
London, at the Dept. of Sociology, Essex University
and at at the Dept. of Media and Communications at
Goldsmiths College, University of London.

Straub's theory teaching subjects are based on his
current research (visualizing/ mapping knowledge, the
changing processes of self-governance in the context
of mobility and territory) at the Centre for Cultural
Studies (CCS) at Goldsmiths College. His artistic
practice is primarily experimental film/videomaking
and performative art.
