Interest: Much of my work explores how vernaculars emerge due to influences of migration, travel, technology and long distance communication. In particular my interests lie in cross-cultural communication and aesthetics in design/ image making through the use of emerging technologies and pervasive media. On a creative and technical level my work seeks to challenge the ephemeral nature of the digital medium through the production of tactile hybrid media artworks.
Bio: Simone is an Australian artist currently located in the UK. Originally trained as a photographer, and later as a new media designer, Simone worked commercially in Australia and the UK as a studio photographer, graphic designer and as an art director for clients such as Novell, The Australian Tourist Commission, The Royal Bank of Scotland and Teletext UK.
After working 60 plus hours per week Simone decided to leave commercial design to travel all over the world and then concentrate on her art. Generous support and funding from the Scottish Arts Council enabled her to devote 12 months to research and development at Dundee Contemporary Arts Print Studio in Scotland to explore the relationship between photography, new media and print-making.
Currently Simone lectures in creative digital design at Bournemouth Media School, where she teaches interactive and graphic design, and digital art to MA Interactive Media, BA Interactive Media, and BA Public Relations students. Simone is also kept busy by engaging in practice-based research, the results of which are exhibitions and artist talks to a wide range of audiences. She has participated in exhibitions, residencies and projects in Australia, the UK and Canada.
