Bio: Philip Bussmann has been designing stage video for international dance and theater productions since 1995.
After studying set and costume design with Professor Jürgen Rose at Stuttgart State Academy of Fine Arts he moved to New York City. There he worked for eight years as video and graphic designer for the internationally renowed Wooster Group, which is known for its media theater performances under the direction of Elizabeth LeCompte. In Germany he worked at Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, at Schauspielhaus Bochum, for the Ruhrtriennale, at Schauspiel Frankfurt, Staatspoper Stuttgart, and Sasha Walz at Schaubühe Berlin.
In November 2003 Philip Bussmann created his first own work for theater ama, a dances improvisation with video, at the Les Grandes Traversees Festival at the Bordeaux Opera.
negation a 64-minute dance-film, premiered in January 2004 at Schauspiel Frankfurt. During the 2003/04 season he was a stipend project at zkm in Karlsruhe. and resident video artist at Forum Neues Musiktheater at Stuttgart State Opera.
Philip Bussmann currently lives in Frankfurt am Main und works on projects with William Forsythe for The Forsythe Company, Wanda Golonka for Schauspiel Frankfurt, and Luk Perceval at Schaubühne Berlin, as well as 2+, a theatre company he founded with dancer Christopher Roman to realize video and performance projects. He also teaches “video and theatre” at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies at Giessen University.
